Foreign Exchange
Indian Currency is called the
Rupee. It is available in denominations of 1000,
500, 100, 50, 20, 10, 5, 2 &1. One rupee
equals 100 paise. Coins in common use are those of
Rs. 5,2,1 and paise 50 and 25.
Banks are generally open from 10 am to 2 pm, Monday to Friday and 10am - 12 pm on Saturdays. Banks remain close on Sundays and National Holidays. Most of the international banks have their branches in Delhi.
Foreign Exchange can be done at the
hotel or at the airport. The hotel will give the
government rate, which is compatible with the rate
anywhere else. The Central Bank of India
counter at Ashoka Hotel is open 24hrs as is Thomas
Cook. It is advisable to bring currency in
American Express or Thomas Cooktravellers cheques
or to draw against your Visa,Amex or Master card.
